Top 5 Video Marketing Trends for 2017

Many business owners and entrepreneurs define “success” as; when preparation meets opportunity. While many businesses are focusing on how to finish up Q4, believe it not 2017 is just around the corner. So, it’s time to prepare for opportunities that lie ahead in 2017.

Pretty much every business owner knows that video marketing needs to be a part of a successful marketing mix, but the video marketing landscape had rapidly changed! It’s no longer a nice-to-have if you want to compete (especially online), so in order to stay ahead of the competition, and up your video marketing game — let’s take a look at the top 5 video marketing trends for  2017.

1. Increase in Facebook Video

Facebook has certainly shaken up the advertising world, and this should come as no surprise that views on Facebook  have increased from a whopping  1 billion to 8 billion in the past year. Meanwhile, text posts are declining at an extremely rapid rate.

Facebook has heavily invested in video in recent years, with their most recent video feature, Facebook Live, launching just a few months ago. If Facebook continues as an innovator in the video marketing industry, then we predict that next year there will be an even bigger increase in people uploading, sharing, and discovering videos on Facebook, and it’s finally time that your brand gets its video act together on Facebook too.

2. Increase in Video Apps

Love it or hate it, millennials are an ever growing part of potential customers, and abut the only thing they love more than cool apps is visual content. Combine the two and you make your brand accessible to the new generation of consumers.

Yes, it is time that your brand needs to consider embracing such things as Instagram and Snapchat. These apps are at the top of these potential prospects lists. In fact, 10 billion videos are watched on Snapchat everyday, and Instagram is becoming more and more focused on video all the time.

Instagram has recently launched a new feature called Instagram stories, which is very similar to Snapchat stories, allowing users to share short videos with their followers.

3. Multi-Channel Marketing

Most consumers are on different devices and social media platforms; and, where consumers venture, brands must follow. Long gone are the simpler days when a brand could simply create a video, and upload it to YouTube.  Posting videos on all available social media channels can help with building a multi-media channel platform. How? If someone saw a video on Instagram, tagged their BFF and their BFF shares it…. You are already widening your viewing audience, which will gain exposure for your brand, and increase your chances of conversions. This trend is expected to grow leaps and bounds in 2017.

4. The “Infotainment” Era

While it may not be a word you can use in scrabble, “infotainment” is the amalgamation of ‘informative’ videos and ‘entertainment’ videos. One without the other just won’t be good enough in the future. Consumers need to digest the information you are presenting them with, but also be entertained at the same time. Without entertainment, users will click away from your video and forget all about you.

5. Video and Email Team Up

While one would think that with the explosion of video in recent years, that video would naturally be a part of everyday email. But, but for one reason or another including video in email hasn’t gone so well in the past. In 2017, more and more brands will rely less on text-heavy content in their emails, and more on engaging videos.

Email and video have the potential to make a great team, as video allows you to keep your emails short and get your message across, in turn, email is a great way to get your video in front of a lot of relevant viewers (the people on your mailing list).

Final Thoughts

One item we didn’t mention, but should be a no-brainer and already an established part of your online marketing is having video content on your website. If you don’t already have video on your website, you’re way behind, or if you’re completing a redesign of your website in 2017 be sure that video is included within the design.

So, it looks like 2017 is going to be yet another exciting year for video marketing! Inevitably, there are going to be changes, but video will still be as prominent as ever in the marketing world. If not, more so!
